Labor Board to Reproach Restaurant in Park
Two weeks after a strike at the Boathouse restaurant in Central Park began, the National Labor Relations Board says that it plans to issue a legal complaint against the restaurant. The complaint would allege that the Boathouse illegally threatened, fired and punished workers for supporting the union. Around 60 employees are on strike, out of about 140. The NLRB also said that it will seek an order requiring the restaurant to negotiate with the union, though no unionization vote has been held. That type of order is only sought when the NLRB feels that there is no way for a fair election to be held. The Boathouse denies all of the allegations and says that most of its workers do not want to unionize. Representatives of the union, the restaurant and the NLRB will meet on Tuesday to discuss the complaint.
