Labor defeats anti-union initiative in California
California voters cast their ballots against a proposition that would have prohibited unions and corporations from collecting money from paycheck deductions that would be used for state political activities. The proposition was aimed at unions, who are the biggest users of paycheck deductions. The proposition would have also stopped direct donations to state candidates. Both sides spent millions of dollars on the measure. A lawsuit to reveal the funding for supporters of the proposition found that much of the money came from out-of-state. Similar propositions were rejected in 2005 and 1998.
