Labor Friction Escalates Between California Port Truckers, Shippers
On Tuesday, truckers based in California and employed by Intermodal Bridge Transport filed a petition to unionize with the Teamsters. The employees, who haul freight from ports within Los Angeles and Long Beach, are currently accusing shipping companies of wage theft. This marks one of the first times that workers who are primarily treated as contractors have come together to unionize. Many of these workers earn less than minimum wage currently.
