Labor group calls for general strike in budget bill is approved
The South Central Federation of Labor voted on Monday to prepare for a general strike that would take place if Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's proposed cuts to collective bargaining rights are passed. The strike may effect schools, the government and private businesses, but the unions say that life-and-death services would not be interrupted. The group said that preparations would include educating union members and the public as to what a strike would look like. Walker has said that if the bill does not pass soon he will begin giving layoff notices, but has not said where those cuts will be or when they will take effect.
