Labor Group Says Wal-Mart Faces U.S. Labor Board Probe
Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board general counsel announced that it would seek to prosecute Wal-Mart for violating workers? rights when it retaliated against workers engaging in legally protected strikes. According to OUR Walmart, one of the groups working to organize Wal-Mart employees, the company has fired more than 117 employees illegally. A Wal-Mart spokesperson maintains that the company?s actions have been ?legal and justified? and that the lack of proceedings against the company in the past are a testament to how seriously the company and its representatives view the obligations under the National Labor Relations Act and its amendments. The charges are expected to be filed within two weeks and if a settlement cannot be reached then the case will be heard by an administrative law judge.
