Labor groups push for $15 minimum wage, target Seattle-area airport
A ballot measure in SeaTac, Washington would increase the area?s minimum wage for medium and large hospitality and travel employers to $15 per hour. The measure, which will be voted on November 5, would exempt airlines being that SeaTac is home to the state?s busiest airport. Opponents say that instead of increasing regional household income, the wage increase would incentivize businesses to use less workers or move out of the area entirely. Alaska Airlines has said that they are looking into decreasing the number of flights to SeaTac International Airport should the measure pass. Labor groups have worked closely with immigrant and civil rights as well as religious groups to promote the issue.
