Labor Judge Says T-Mobile Must Disband Illegal Union
A National Labor Relations Board judge ordered T-Mobile to end their "T-Voice" program, which was provided to allow the company's call center workers to air complaints to management. Call center workers who tried to join the Communications Workers of America union last year complained that T-Mobile was obstructing their efforts. The ruling on Tuesday found that the program infringes upon laws preventing the creation of management-led organizations that resemble unions, which are traditionally employee-managed. T-Mobile had already lost several cases brought to the NLRB two years ago, including improper treatment of employees and crackdowns on employee discussions on union formation. TMobile's woes follow continuing strain in the telecommunications industry over labor relations; about 40,000 Verizon workers went on a seven-week strike last year, while more recently 17,000 AT&T workers went on strike last month due to an expired contract.
