Labor law: 'No giving in to pressure'
Depite warnings that foreign businesses may pack up their production plants and move elsewhere, China's largest and most powerful trade union stated it will not "kowtow" to pressure regarding a new law that would give wider protection to Chinese workers. The proposed law would give workers greater voice in deciding matters of wages, insurance and hours, along with giving unions the right to negotiate with employers collectively. Representatives for foreign businesses, however, are concerned the regulations are "too strict" and too difficult to enforce.
