Labor leaders seek unity against Bush
Tuesday night, the AFL-CIO will host a forum where members will question the nine Democratic presidential candidates on their platforms, and ultimately decide whether to endorse a candidate. Organized labor is attempting to defeat George W. Bush; whose administration has made several polices that go against labor interests. It is unclear whether labor will achieve a unified position on this issue, as some unions have already begun independently endorsing certain candidates. Unions represent approximatley 13% of the American workforce and therefore their strength lies in the ability to mobilize a substantial number of voters in support of a candidate.
