Labor movement faces impending obstacles as economy slows and states consider right-to-work laws
Over the course of the last year, the US labor movement has experienced great strides with successful unionization drives at large companies such as Amazon, Starbucks, Chipotle, Apple, and more. Much of this success can be attributed to the post-pandemic economy and heightened leverage employees have wielded amidst labor shortages. However, there are many challenges affecting labor and actual union worker numbers, including a slowing economy and impending recession. Additionally, there are currently right-to-work laws on the upcoming ballots in many states that could create a less favorable climate for labor organizing. Labor experts and advocates remain hopeful thought that the labor movement's momentum will persist despite these obstacles.
