Labor opens new offensive against GOP's Whitman
California unions say that they have begun their push against GOP governor candidate Meg Whitman. The California Labor Federation, which represents 2.1 million workers in California said that they plan to use social networking technology to reach out to non-union voters. Union officials say that they cannot compete with Whitman's money, but they plan on fighting her every step of the way. Opposition to Whitman is running among union members due to her plans to cut public workers and their pensions if elected. The Labor Federation says that they are starting early this year in their efforts to discredit Whitman, including launching a website and giving out campaign materials. A spokesman for Whitman called the unions "entrenched", and said that they were doing what the Democratic candidate Jerry Brown cannot.
