Large Iowa Meatpacker in Illegal Immigrant Raid Files for Bankruptcy
Agriprocessors Inc, a large, Iowa-based kosher meatpacking company, filed for bankruptcy Tuesday after fines and fees associated with labor violations and illegal workers eventually led to the company's demise. The firm employed 389 illegal immigrants, who were arrested in raid in May, and was often associated with poor wages, unpaid overtime, and safety infringements. Agriprocessors also resisted union activity and employed at least 30 under-age workers.
