Larger Union That Enforces Immigration Opposes Bill
The unions that represent workers in the Department of Homeland Security have come out against the immigration bill currently in the Senate. The unions say that the changes to policy would weaken public safety. The two unions represent about 20,000 workers. Some have been asked to speed up deportations for criminals, while others have been asked to grant legal papers and reprieves. The Senate bill would provide a pathway to citizenship for many immigrants, as well as tighten border security.
