Leaders Resign While Hundreds of Market Basket Employees Rally in Support of Fired CEO
In a show of unity hundreds of Market Basket employees have rallied several stores in protest of the firing of the company?s CEO, Arthur T. Demoulas, by its board. The company operates more than 70 stores in New England and is profitable. The show of solidarity with a top level executive is unusual, although so is a company who can maintain profit growth as well as generous benefits such as Market Basket?s profit sharing plan which is open to nearly all of the company?s employees, regardless of title or seniority. In addition to the protests, several important executives and salaried employees have resigned in protest of the board?s move. The firing of Mr. Demoulas has been attributed to a family feud that has gone on for years.
