Leading index, jobless claims up
According to reports released Thursday the index of leading economic indicators edged up in April. The increase was spurred by higher stock prices, more building permits and an increase in the money supply. The Labor Department also reported that the number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims rose last week. However, economists predict that the labor market is becoming stronger and future growth is expected.
