Local 226, 'the Culinary,' Makes Las Vegas the Land of the Living Wage
Service workers in Las Vegas who belong to Local 226 earn living wages, have a solid pension plan and three weeks vacation, pay no premiums for health care and are guaranteed 40 hours? pay each week. In addition, twenty four casinos help finance one of the finest job training schools - the Culinary Training Academy. Though the hospitality industry and the union have struggled over the years to find peace, their efforts have resulted in a well paid, well trained workforce and an atmosphere of cooperation and prosperity.
