Local Right-to-Work Law Survives Challenge
The recent ruling in Auto Workers Local 2047 v. Hardin County is the first time a federal appeals court has ruled in favor of a local right-to-work law. The decision, made by the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, will most directly affect Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Right-to-work legislation bars unions from necessitating members to pay dues. An attorney representing the unions has since predicted an appeal, reasoning that the he believes the court misinterpreted the legal precedent. The NLRB then released a statement supporting the unions.
