Local Unions Vow to Continue Movement
Though the future of the national labor movement is unclear, some local unions, especially in California, are vowing to remain united. Facing an upcoming political battle against Gov. Schwarzenegger this fall, California unions remain optimistic that they can work together, even after the withdrawal of the SEIU and Teamsters from the national AFL-CIO. But doing so could pose considerable challenges to union officials, who have built the Los Angeles labor movement into one of the region's most formidable political forces.
