Locked-out AK Steel workers can't choose a union until late July
Over 2,000 workers who have been locked out of AK Steel's Middletown Works for nearly four months will have to wait another month to choose which international union will represent them. Their current union, the Armco Employees Independent Federation, is seeking affiliation with the International Association of Machinists, while the United Steelworkers of America have forced entry into the election, the format of which is under dispute. A labor board hearing officer announced on Thursday that the three unions and the company have one week to submit proposals for the election process, with an election date to be set within 30 days.
