Lockout resolution could come in multiple forms
As the NFL lockout prepares to enter its fifth month, observers say several scenarios could bring about a resolution. Under one, players would drop their class-action antitrust suit against the league and return to the bargaining table to hammer out a new agreement out of court. In another scenario, players and owners settle the suit with the court retaining jurisdiction so that players can refile if they feel owners don't live up to their end of the settlement. Complicating matters further is the class-action suit filed by retired football players accusing owners of decreasing pensions. The retired players could potentially halt any CBA reached by current players by owners to gain a more prominent place at the bargaining table, or allow the current players to settle independently of their own class action suit, which could then be kept in motion.
