London cuts march: Government sticking to plan-Cable
Somewhere between 250,000 to 500,000 people attended an anti-austerity march in London on Saturday. The march was organized by the Trades Union Congress, a British labor federation. The organizers said that the march was a way for people to show the government how they felt about the proposed cuts to the budget. The government said that it is listening to what the unions have to say, but that it will not rethink its plans based on the demonstrations on Saturday. A representative said that issues would be dealt with in a "business-like way". The TUC said that they did not expect the economic policy to change just because of the march, but said that the government needed to be responsive to the voices of the people.
