London MPs' motion 'commends' Tube job cuts protest
As London Tube maintenance and operational staff begin a 24 hour strike against 800 job cuts, the Labour party tabled a motion commending them for their actions. Around 11,000 workers will walk out in protest of the planned cuts of 800 ticket-taking jobs. Transport for London says that the cuts are due to customer demand. They also said that about a third of their trains would be running, and extra bus and boat services will be provided. The Labour Party motion said that the strikers were right in defending the Tube as a public service. The union representing the workers said that it will suspend the strike when they suspend the cuts. The union has planned what will be the fourth strike for November 29th.
