Long Island Study Rebuts Views on Immigrant Workers
A report by the Fiscal Policy Institute says that the effects of immigrants on Long Island's economy have been positive over the past two decades. The report says that contrary to popular opinion, immigrants on Long Island worked in a variety of sectors, including white collar jobs. The report also says that immigrants contributed to the rise in GDP, and seemed to have no effect on employment rates for other workers. The report also says that continuing to perceive immigrants as an unwelcome presence in the labor market could have negative effects on the economy.
