Lonmin workers strike at South Africa mine as journalists visit
About 6,000 South African miners went on strike Tuesday, coinciding with a visit from journalists. The mine was the site of violence during the summer, with 34 workers dying in a conflict with police. The company that owns the mine said it was the biggest strike since August and was illegal. The strike was to protest the continued presence of one miners' union, which some workers say does not represent them. Strikes over the summer led to shutdowns in many mines.
