Los Angeles County workers authorize strike action, set to strike in early October if tentative agreement isn’t reached
Los Angeles County workers represented by the Service Employees International Union voted earlier this week to authorize strike action. If a union contract between the Los Angeles local government and SEIU is not reached before October 10th, workers will go on strike. Thousands of Los Angeles County workers would walk off the job, and the strike would lead to significant disruptions to various divisions in the Los Angeles County government. The union states that the local government has not violated certain aspects of the previous union contract, and is avoiding contract negotiations. The Los Angeles County government countered and stated that negotiations were not set to begin yet, and threatening potential strike action before negotiations start is not productive.
