Los Angeles officials want workers to trade furloughs for pay cuts
Los Angeles workers are voting on contracts that would end furloughs and cut pay by 4%. The furloughs currently constitute a 10% pay cut for workers. However, not all workers are affected by furloughs, and some question whether the contracts will pass if those workers feel that they have nothing to gain from the pay cut. The contracts would also delay pay increases and include changes to retirement costs. Both the mayor and union leaders are urging workers to accept the deal, saying that it is the best thing for everyone. Voting will end Tuesday.
