Louisville Ford plant threatens to strike if local contract agreement is not reached
Workers at Ford’s biggest American factory, located in Louisville, Kentucky, are threatening to take strike action due to a dispute regarding the factory’s local contract. The factory produces F-series pickup trucks, the Ford Excursion, and the Lincoln Navigator, vehicles that generate large amounts of profit for Ford Motors. The proposed strike action will take place on February 23rd if the dispute between the United Auto Workers union and Ford Motors is not resolved before that date. The plant in Kentucky participated in strike action late last year, during the UAW’s nationwide strike against the Big Three automakers. The factory has been without a local contract for the past five months, as the two parties do not agree on issues regarding health and safety. The United Auto Workers union is still negotiating 19 different local contracts with Ford Motors and is also negotiating numerous local contracts with Stellaris and General Motors.
