Loyola University graduate students vote to unionize
Following a ballot count on Wednesday, it was announced that graduate students at Loyola University Chicago will have the opportunity to unionize. About 210 students participated in the vote; all those who worked full or part time as research, teaching, and program assistants as well as fellowship teachers (excluding those in the theology department) were eligible. Loyola Provost John Pelissero expressed disappointment at the vote outcome. The university has cautioned strongly against unionization in the past, but did release a statement on the website apologizing to graduate students for any perceived mistakes made in the past.
