Machinists union: Contract negotiations fall apart with Textron Aviation
With a threat that the company will pursue outsourcing jobs, talks between Textron Aviation and machinists disintegrated Sunday, after company officials refused to put a pledge to keep jobs in Kansas in writing. Textron is seeking to combine machinists in the two local unions for Beechcraft and Cessna aircrafts into a single labor agreement. Union representatives are dismayed that company officials walked out of talks without making a final offer, and fear Textron has made up its mind not to build aircraft in Wichita, instead outsourcing jobs and perhaps even moving its plants out of state.
