Malawians march against pension bill
Around 300 workers marched to the Malawian parliament to deliver a petition against a pension bill that is currently being considered. The bill would set the retirement ages at 55 for women and 60 for men, and would require workers to have a pension fund. The Malawi Congress of Trade Union says that pension should be paid at 45 or a certain number of years with a company. The unions say that with an average life expectancy of 50, many Malawians will not benefit. The government said that the bill is to encourage workers to save, and that there are older people in the country who will benefit.
