Market Basket a rare case in labor world
Workers at Market Basket are almost one month into a walkout protesting cuts to hours for part-time staff and the firing of the company's CEO. The walkout has been a united effort on the part of employees despite the absence of any organized union presence. Part of the movement's success lies in the support of mid-level managers in the company, something that would be illegal if those workers were unionized. Observers are unsure as yet of the success of this kind of action, as the walkout still hasn't achieved its goals, and workers are feeling more and more the pinch of loss of income from the walkout.
