Marks & Spencer shop workers to get 5% pay rise in April
Shop workers at Marks & Spencer will receive a 5% pay increase in April, bringing their hourly wage to £12.60—above the new UK national living wage of £12.21. The company is investing £95 million in these raises, which will also benefit London workers and mid-managers. CEO Stuart Machin acknowledged rising costs from national insurance hikes and other government policies but emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting employees. Despite concerns about increasing costs in the retail sector, M&S has invested nearly £300 million in wages over the past three years.
