Massachusetts Bay Transportation Agency aspires to increase hiring efforts and improve retention rates with new union agreement
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Agency has reached an agreement with its
unionized workers that will increase wages by 18% over the next four years, increase employee benefits, and expand employee healthcare coverage. The contract will also offer rewards to employees in an effort to raise retention rates. MBTA will improve pay progression for new hires and offer sign-on bonuses in hopes of meeting hiring goals. These measures will benefit all transit workers in Massachusetts, such as bus drivers, train drivers, and maintenance workers. It is estimated that the new measures will cost 55 million dollars.
