May consider a strike, Goodyear union says
The United Steelworkers of America, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s largest labor union, may consider a strike if an agreement cannot be reached in contract negotiations with the company. Employees are seeking assurances that the company will not close factories and will limit cuts in health-care and pension benefits, while Goodyear is proposing to reduce costs to make up for $1.31 billion in net losses over the past two years. Both sides have agreed to a day-to-day extension of negotiations, and agreed to give 72 hours notice before ending talks.
