McDonald’s employees in Southern Italy strike over dangerous working conditions during heat wave
Workers at two different McDonald’s locations in Italy went on strike after having to work in an intense heat wave with no air conditioning. Southern Italy experienced temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the heatwave, causing McDonald’s employees to suffer from heat illness. Employees brought in portable air conditioning systems to fight the heat, but the electrical systems could not support the air conditioning. The workers reached out to management to request store closures on the hottest days of the heat wave, but management did not approve of the request. In response, employees went on strike to demand better working conditions.
