Mexico and Wal-Mart Launch Initiative to Improve Lives of Farmworkers
The Los Angeles Times recently published a story exposing the poor working conditions faced by farmers in Mexico. Many of these farmers supply U.S. chain supermarkets. Mexico's Secretary of Agriculture drafted legislation that will protect farmworkers by guaranteeing fair wages and hours. In addition, Wal-Mart has urged suppliers to only purchase goods from farms that comply with fair labor standards.
