Mich. opposes Chrysler sale over workers' comp
The State of Michigan is opposing the planned sale of Chrysler to Fiat. Michigan is worried the Italian auto company won't meet obligations to contribute to the State of Michigan Workers' Compensation Fund ? a requirement of all Michigan employers. Chrysler normally makes $25 million in payments annually, without which the State worries it may be unable to pay eligible workers. Mike Cox, Michigan's Attorney General, filed bankruptcy papers on behalf of the Fund and Funds Administration on Tuesday.
