Michigan Unions Brace for Teacher Opt-out Decision
With the passing of the right-to-work law, 112,000 school workers and active educators with the Michigan Education Association are now faced with the decision to remain in unions or leave them. The president of a 400-member local in Detroit?s suburb Novi argues that unions give them a voice. Conversely, conservatives say that leaving unions will give employees the opportunity to have workplace freedom and a higher paycheck. If a significant number of employees do not renew union membership, labor in the state will face a strong financial blow.
