Microsoft to layoff hundreds of employees in Xbox division
Microsoft announced last week that hundreds of positions in the company’s Xbox gaming division would be eliminated. Despite the layoffs, no devices or games will be cut, and no studios will be shut down. 650 workers will be affected by the layoffs, and the layoffs are targeted at workers in administrative and supporting roles. Microsoft has conducted various rounds of layoffs to its video game divisions since acquiring major video game publisher Activision Blizzard. The company stated that the layoffs are due to restructuring efforts that will make the organization more efficient in the long run. Microsoft will provide affected employees with severance packages, outplacement services, and extended healthcare.
