Millions Are Left to Make It to Work Any Way They Can
The Transit Workers Union of America, New York City's transit union, voted early this morning to strike against the Metropolitan Transit Authority. The Union's 33,700 subway and bus workers brought the city's transportation system to a halt, forcing millions of computers to find alternative ways to work. Mayor Bloomberg condemned the strike and said he doesn't believe negotiations should resume until transit employees go back to work. Meanwhile, Roger Toussaint, president of Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union, said the action is part of a broader effort for social justice and workplace rights.
