MNA: Staff Therapists at Smith College in Northampton File for an Election with the National Labor Relations Board to join the MNA and Secure an Independent Voice to Help Meet Growing Student Health Needs
Staff therapists at the Schacht Center for Health and Wellness at Smith College recently
initiated a process to form a union by filing for an election with the National Labor Relations
Board (NLRB). The therapists, who seek representation by the Massachusetts Nurses
Association (MNA), had previously requested voluntary recognition from Kris Evans, the
center's director, which was not granted. The unionization effort aims to ensure therapists have a
significant role in decision-making processes, secure adequate professional support and
remuneration, and create a sustainable workplace environment for current and future clinicians.
The MNA, established in 1903, is a leading union and professional body representing over
25,000 nurses and healthcare professionals across Massachusetts.
