Monti to Meet Labor Unions Amid Fresh Warning on Crisis
Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti is moving forward with plans to restructure the country?s labor regulations in response to rumblings that the European debt crisis could deepen further. Monti will meet with labor leaders and employers in an effort to help both sides reach an agreement, but has vowed to revise labor laws even if an agreement can?t be reached. The proposed changes would include updating regulations for dismissing employees and extending benefits for unemployed workers. Monti hopes to enact the legislation by the end of the month.
