More American workers sue employers for overtime pay
Workers are suing employers more for back overtime pay. As the economy improves, the number of lawsuits regarding back pay has increased 32% from 2008. Many workers say that they worked more than 40 hours, and some say that they worked off the clock and were misclassified as exempt. Experts say that the recession caused businesses to ask more of workers for less compensation and workers were more willing to do it because of the tough labor market. Many experts say that the lawsuits are another sign that labor laws need to be updated to keep up with technology, which can often cause a lack of distinction between work and personal time.
