A group of more than 190 organizations, traversing 36 countries, are calling upon clothing companies to stop sourcing their products from the Xinjiang region of China for the next twelve months, and to cut ties completely with suppliers in Uighur due to forced labor detention. The mass internments here are meant to train as many as one million Uighurs, Kazakhs and other largely Muslim minorities into workers loyal to the Communist Party. Roughly one in five cotton garments sold globally contains cotton from the Xinjiang region. Clothing companies known to use suppliers in this area include Adidas, Lacoste, H & M, Abercrombie & Fitch, Ralph Lauren and the PVH Corporation, which owns Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein.
