Disagreements with Citigroup chief executive, Vikram S. Pandit have culminated in the departure of Sallie L. Krawcheck ? widely regarded as the most important woman on Wall Street. Ms. Krawcheck is not the first high-profile woman to leave Wall Street recently, and many are concerned that such losses leave few mentors and role models for women eyeing senior positions. Some speculate the financial downturn is affecting women more severely. Pandit and Krawcheck clashed on many issues, including management structures, profit initiatives, and matters surrounding the auction-rate securities scandal. Her exit occurred after declining a senior advisory role offered in place of her position as head of the global wealth management division.
