Most zero-hours workers ‘with same employer for more than a year’
According to Trades Union Congress (TUC) research, many British workers continue to work on zero-hour contracts despite long-term employment with the same employer. Approximately 720,000 employees have remained with their present company for more than a year, 130,000 of which remain on zero-hours contracts after ten years. Many oppose this type of contract, pointing towards how insecure work stifles economic progress and improved job rights. The Department of Business and Trade has responded, planning an employment rights bill that offers fixed hours and better working conditions, expected to become law by 2026.
