Moving the Finnish line at work
Though almost 40 percent of the workforce in Finland is over 50, a new holistic concept called ?work ability? has some workers who were headed toward retirement instead, being encouraged to stay on the job. The program is an effort to balance personal factors with the job and work environment that has been promoted by the Finnish government since 1998. Since work ability was introduced, the Finnish employment rate among those aged 55-64 has risen to more than 13% compared to the European Union average rise of 5.1%.
