Multiple Bay Area technology companies announce layoffs
Various companies located in the San Francisco Bay Area have announced layoffs that will affect hundreds of workers. Intel, a major semiconductor and technology company, will cut 62 employees who work in the company’s sales and marketing divisions. The layoffs will affect employers who work in Santa Clara at Intel’s headquarters. Intel stated that the job cuts are a part of company restructuring efforts that will allow for a significant reduction in company expenditures. Checkr, a company focused on conducting background screenings with artificial intelligence, announced major layoffs that will reduce the company’s workforce by over thirty percent. The layoffs will affect 382 employees, and cuts will occur in all divisions. Checkr stated that they will also freeze hiring efforts, and these changes are due to the current market conditions. Ghost Autonomy, a start-up focused on developing software for self-driving vehicles, shut down operations due to funding issues. The closure of the company will result in over one hundred employees losing their jobs.
