Muni service improves as sickout enters 3rd day
As the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (Muni) sickout enters its third day, the agency has managed to decrease wait times and overcrowding. On Monday, Muni only had 200 of its 600 vehicles in operation, but today the number of vehicles operating stands at 440. San Francisco municipal workers are banned from striking, and so talks with union leaders, who claim no involvement in the labor action, to end the sick out have been fruitless. Meanwhile, negotiations for a new contract continue to slowly move forward. On Tuesday, the TWU Local 250 announced that 1,198 of its members had voted against the latest contract, with only 47 voting for. The union?s leadership has said that it offered to return to the bargaining table, but that Muni administration has yet to respond.
