N.C. agency: No workers' comp? Go to jail
The North Carolina Industrial Commission says that it will begin a new policy next month: if uninsured employers do not pay workers compensation, they will go to jail. Officials say that the hearings at the end of May are for employers who have claims that have been outstanding for years. Earlier this month an investigation found that many employers did not have the mandated insurance, and that the Commission did not enforce rules around compensation for injured workers. The agency said that the policy change is in response to these and other concerns.
